PlateMate Micro Loading 5/8 Pound Hex Weight Plate - 1 Pair

Do you ever feel that adding weight in 5 pound increments is too much? PlateMate magnet weights attach to your dumbbells or weight plates allowing you to add weight in the increments you want.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars If you lift weights, you need these.
These are designed to be an ideal match for the hex style solid dumbbells, but they work perfectly well with any type weighted resistance, including: Olympic and standard weight plates, weight stacks on machines, or whatever else.

If you lift for long enough, at some point your progression (continued addition of weight) will stall on your lifts and you will not be able to complete your desired amount of reps in a given set with the next increment in weight available. This is more likely to happen on smaller isolation movements first, but will happen to all lifts eventually.

Let me give an example using the biceps curl done with dumbbells. You begin with a fairly light weight (say 5lbs.) and every other week you consistently are able to add more weight. After 2 mos. your up to 25lbs. Since the dumbbell sets progress in 5lb. increments the 30lb’ers are your next choice. Let’s say you fail this attempt. Well, that 5lb. jump from 25 to 30lbs. is a 20% increase over your previous max. That’s a pretty big jump to make. The PlateMates allow you to add 1-1/4lb, making it a jump of only 5%.This is much easier for the body to adapt to, which delays plateaus and extends the progression of your training cycles. I was stuck at this point for over a year until I purchased these. Imagine a year wasted with no progression that didn’t have to happen.

Do yourself a favor and buy 2 pairs each of the 5/8lb’ers and the 1-1/4lb’ers. My only negative comment would be the lack of more available sizes. Ideally, I would like to see a set of 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and 1lb’ers. But just one additional size of 1-7/8lb. would be useful. That way I wouldn’t need to stack the 2 sizes on the ends of the ‘bells which makes for a pretty wide overall unit. Care must be taken to not knock them off when stacked this way on movements like seated dumbbell curls as they tend to brush against the thigh at the bottom of the motion.
