5 Stars Great buy for the money…
I thought the book was very straight and to the point in that you can do crunches till you can’t do anymore, but just adominal work won’t get you that dream set of abs you desire. He tells you that in this book and how the key to a chisled stomach is mainly your diet.

Great read for anyone starting out and not fully understanding why you can’t see that flat stomach as of yet.

5 Stars This is THE solution to your six pack!
Right On! This book really reveals the secret of getting in rock-hard shape. I love the sections about carb rotation, and the author is not afraid to mention supplements that will help you get to your goal… whereas so many other books never do that. The work-out routines might be very similar to others you have seen, but the information about nutrition is very detailed… all you need to do is follow the guidelines and flab will be flying off. Another great section is about how models/bodybuilders prepare for competition. I always wondered about how they got those deep ridges between their abdominals. It’s all in this book. Finally someone that covers it all.

5 Stars If you want abs buy this book
I used to often buy all the workout magazines you see in the stores. Abs in 4 weeks! Eat the junk and still get a six pack! All these cover stories get you to buy the magazine, but in reality these are unrealistic goals. Sure if you run 15 miles a days and were to eat just grapes and prune juice you would lose weight, but hardly anyone has the time to do these plans or would want to eat such boring food for any protracted period of time. I have brought many workout books over the years and they tend to concentrate on the exercises and when it comes to diet its eat more protein, eat less junk, thanks for the cash, see you later.

This book is different. Unlike the recycled articles in the magazines written by pot-bellied journalists, this book is written by Neil Frost a man not scared to show a picture of himself and the results he has achieved following his own program. Achieving a six pack is within your grasp if you have the discipline to stick to the principles laid down in this book.

The program takes about 12 weeks and if you check out his website then you can see before and after pictures together with testimonials of people that have succeeded with this lifestyle program. I say lifestyle, as exercise will account for very little of your time. You don’t need to spend hours in the gym. The biggest part of the program is learning what you should be eating and when and this is fully covered in the book together with recipe ideas.

The exercise section is well thought out and easy to follow, the diet section is in depth but straightforward.

If you have the willpower to stick to this program, you will see impressive results. I know i have.

There is also a DVD for this program which is also worth a look.

5 Stars A Great Investment!
I have just started following the Abs for Life System for about 3 weeks now and I’ve lost 9 pounds and an inch off my waist so far. I have trained on and off for about ten years now and this is no word of a lie, I’ve actually learned more from reading this book than I have in those ten years of reading all the fitness mags. I like the fact that although the book emphasizes on getting abs, it also provides a plan for building muscle all over your body. Myself and a few buddies at my gym have all been following the muscle building plan contained in the book.

Nutrition is covered extensively. As the author points out, forget sculpting great abs and a great body if you cannot nail your diet. I have learned so much about food I could write my own book on the topic! The meal suggestions were great and especially liked the guilt free desserts that were listed.

I like the approach of this system as it is maintainable not just short term, but I can see myself sticking to this for years to come. I will update this review in 12 weeks, but wanted to write something now as I am soo pleased with the results.

Please read this book, for under $16, it really is a sound investment. Bravo!

5 Stars “ABS For Life” is the most approachable, motivational, and effective Bodymakeover program I have encountered
“ABS for Life” is an excellent book if you’re new to fitness and trying to figure out how to get in shape and stay in shape or, perhaps, someone who’s been working out and/or dieting for a while and doesn’t seem to be making much progress towards losing fat, building lean muscle and toning those abs. Neil Frost does a great job of explaining the building blocks of fitness and of debunking a lot of the fitness myths. He covers the proper way to exercise, both fat burning cardio and weight training, proper nutrition, not some fad diet but rather how to eat real food in a healthy way, and how to motivate yourself and keep yourself motivated to stick to your goals. The book provides workouts for Beginners, Intermediates and Advanced, so you will move up the stages over the weeks. And it’s not just ab workouts that are provided, there is a whole program dedicated to building muscle contained in the book.

As Neil Frost states, this is NOT a “quick-fix” program, it is a new way of life. If you do not have the motivation or the willpower, it won’t work. But for me, it has made me a brand new person. I have so much more confidence in myself and am so proud that I have the discipline to do this and I am seeing such fantastic results. I really think this comes down to the motivation the book has given me.

I highly recommend this program to anyone who wants to get into fantastic shape relatively quickly (and who doesn’t?). This is going to be money well spent. It really is a great program, no just for abs, but for sculpting your whole body.

A unique book written by a very likable author. Imagine your best friend or sister who has somehow become an experienced personal trainer and is now giving you advice. Full of gentle encouragement and intellectual nudges of motivation. My friend & I both LOVE this author, she is SO NICE! and smart and funny. It’s a fun read. As far as the nitty-gritty of the exercises, there is a section with simple black-and-white photos and word descriptions of most of the basic exercises you can do at home with free weights. Then her “menus” and “recipes” as she calls them for combining and using the exercises. Also there’s a good description of how to stock a simple home gym so you can get in shape without ever buying any expensive machines - just an assortment of free weights, a few options like a bench, and you can get started. One minus is that the abs exercises and stretches for some reason lack photos. I’d borrow or buy a good exercise video(such as the “Strength Training For Dummies” DVD)to fill in some gaps this book leaves; it’s not what I’d call comprehensive. But if you’re a woman who needs to be persuaded to exercise, and/or a beginner to free weights, this little book will certainly get you started on the road to becoming a free-weights amazon.

4 Stars excellent for a beginner!
I’m a big fan of this book, and I think it’s excellent for a beginner. I’ve used lots of machine weights, but I’d never really used free weights before. The book has given me lots of confidence in working with free weights and pushing my workout boundaries. I like the variety in exercises provided, and I appreciate the 30 day plan that lays out a month of workouts that alternate between upper and lower body. The author makes sure every workout balances the weight exercises so that you’re working a complete set of muscles.

The one downside to the book (and the reason for only four stars) is that the book does not have information for advancing further in the weight lifting. If you want to keep lifting dumbbells, it’s fine, but I’d also like to move into bar weights. While I don’t expect the book to cover these as well, I do wish the author had made some further recommendations for continued weight lifting.

4 Stars Pretty Good!!
I really thought this book pretty good for someone that was just looking to tone up and learn a few new excersises. It is noto for a workout buff that already has alot of knowledge though. It has alot of stuff in that most people would already know or do in the gym so you really wouldn’t be learning anything. Overall, I did like it though becuase I was not very knowledgable on dumbell work outs and I really enjoy doing them.

5 Stars I Heart This Book
I have many weight training books for women but this book is always in my gym bag and has gone with me to many gyms over the years. My copy is very loved and very used. The layout of this book is easy to follow. The first chapters concentrate on motivation and getting you prepared for weight training.

The stretching, ab and weight exercises have gray edges so you can reference them quickly and not fumble through the book. My favorite feature is her recipes. A workout recipe consists of your instructions for the day. It gives the number of the exercise and with that number you go to the gray pages to look up that exercise.

Each exercise has one to two pages dedicated to it to instruct you about how to do the exercises. The reader will be informed on form and technique. She also gives a chart of how many reps to do for beginner, intermediate and advanced.

The charts and other great features in the book are very easy to follow. Charts/features in the book include:

-Prices for different types of dumbbells (she tells you how to build your weight set for under $100)

-BMI chart

-Aerobic calorie burn

-body evaluation log (body measurements)

-daily dumbbell workout schedule

-exercise readiness questionnaire

-FAQ section.

I don’t prefer machines when it comes to weight training. I want the resistance and the strength I get from the combination of me and the weights. The day by day plans are easy to follow and sometimes it doesn’t even take me 30 minutes. I feel great and accomplished when I finish a recipe. I can do this at home or at the gym and don’t need any fancy equipment.

5 Stars Great for ANY weight routine!
This book was recomended to me by my doctor. I am athleticly cut but no bodybuilder, and have done prior reserch to my regular routine. This book showed me how to pass that plateau I always hit, and made working out more enjoyable. It’s all about intensity and not overtraining, so my workouts are much harder yet shorter, and my gains are amazing. I cannot recomend this book highly enough.

5 Stars for the serious only
Every serious bodybuilder, or even just your average lifter can benefit from the info in this book. It covers everything from what to eat, to how to lift. Inside there is an article about a world renown trainer, in florida, that guaranteed one half inch gain in upper arms, in only two days. Reguardless of the size of the arm or the size of the trainee the results were a given. If you are serious about this sport or are tired of all work with no results, this book will change your workouts forever.

This book has deep scientific background backing up almost every paragraph. I found it a very complete material, ranging from cell level studies to nutrition to training methods. This book needs 40 pages on the back (in a close to ‘8′ true type font) in order to list all the bibliography references. Great material!

This is the textbook for the Strength Training class I am taking at Northern Kentucky University. I haven’t looked at any other texts on this subject, so I don’t know how it compares to others. I am a third of the way through it, and so far, it is excellent - well written, key points identified, tables summarizing points, etc. Very in depth, informative, and to the point (no wordiness).

A basic course in Anatomy and Physiology would be a useful pereq., as it gets into muscle physiology, hormones, energy systems, etc.

5 Stars CSCS Study Materials
I purchased an edition of this book based on the need to study for a CSCS exam. The book was very helpful and useful. Of course the wardrobe is a little outdated, but that’s always funny!

Back to the content. All of the information is basic and easy to understand without much background with the exception of the biomechanical processes and some anatomy. However, it all can be learned with a little bit of time!

Take your time with this, give it a read, set your ground work. Enjoy!

Not as good as the Dummies series which has better written and illustrated books on this subject.

5 Stars well written and comprehensive
This book has just about all that you can ask of a book on basic weight training; programs, techniques, principles, cautions, etc. It’s also well-organized, printed on acid-free, recycled paper, and has several useful appendices, as well as a glossary and a comprehensive index after the text section. If you can buy just one weight training guide, this is a very good choice.

4 Stars Weight Training 101
In his 3rd edition of this book, exercise physiologist Tom Fahey , continues to present the basics of weight training and offers the latest information from some sports medicine and exercise physiology research. The book is simple and concise. It is recommended for the person who has limited or even no weight training experience or knowledge but who is interested in starting a weight lifting routine.

Chapters include information on muscle development, exercise mechanics and specfic chapters that will help you develop different areas of the body such as chest & shoulders, arms, abdominals, neck and back,and lower body. In addition to exercises with free weights, Fahey also includes routines using Universal Gym and Nautilus type equipment. A chapter on nutrition includes information on diet and performance, steroids and eating disorders.

This is a good primer for developing a beginner’s weight training program.

5 Stars Best Book Yet
I recently boought this book and read it in one sitting on a flight. It is the best I’ve seen yet. Not only does it have great weight training guidance with various kinds of equipment (barbell, dumbell, & various machines) but it gives variations and clear cautions. In addition it has the best nutrition & lifestyle discussion and getting started section I’ve ever seen. It also discusses the difference between strength, power and ensdurance and how to achieve them. Simply trhe best yet.

Well I bought this book thinking it would be informational and helpful, but in fact it was a waste of money! The pictures are poorly illustrated, and they did not include variations of the exercise. Spend your money on a better book!
